In the Half Size Me community, we’ve discussed the fact that it’s easier said than done to focus on making healthy choices at each individual meal.
I’m going to paint a picture for you.
Imagine going to a carnival and having someone tell you that you could have the body you want and be healthy, and all you have to do is juggle 12 balls.
Each ball represents a healthy habit — eating well at breakfast, eating well at lunch, exercising, getting in your water, and so on. They tell you, “Go ahead and do it.”
Chances are, you’d be extremely discouraged very quickly, because juggling 12 balls is really, really difficult, unless you’re an expert and you have a lot of experience doing it. What if you could juggle just one of those 12 balls at a time? Would that count? The answer is yes, it would.
If you sit down for breakfast, guess what? The only ball you have to juggle in that moment is eating a healthy breakfast.
Don’t worry about the other 11 balls. When we get overwhelmed with the amount of things we have to change, that’s when we think, “Oh, I screwed up. Why finish out today? I’ve already blown the day.”
No, you haven’t.
You dropped one ball. Go ahead and pick up the next ball at the next opportunity to make a healthy choice. It’s one choice at a time; you’re not juggling all 12 at the same time.
When have you been out for your walk and had to worry about eating breakfast and lunch and dinner at that moment? You don’t; you just have to worry about getting in the walk. Focus on one habit at a time. Juggle one ball at a time.
That will help you be successful with this for the long haul.
